Storywalks in Schools

Storywalks worked with over 600 pupils in 2014-15 school year creating and delviering a whole range of Storywalks previously only dreamt of.

The new 'if the earth were the size of a pea' Storywalk is all about scale, and is set up with the correct distances in this scale. Walk from the Sun (which is about the size of a Hula Hoop) to the earth past Mercury and Venus then onawards to Mars, Ceres and then Jupiter, and all scalled correctly so the marbles (planets you have in your poecket) can be left at their opportune distances on the trail.

The Storywalk engine enables text and image to be located wherever the user intends, and the system we have deisgned is so simple all ages can access it.

Results

'After the six weeks, with Christopher in class just one day a week all pupils made two sub-levels reading progress, and two pupils went up four book band levels, which is astonishing and something we are really proud of.' Claire Vowell - Norton St Philip

The boy who could
but would not
read

One pupil would not read to teachers, nor classroom asssitants and refused to read at home. The Storywalks engine is text based but the energy of being released from the classroom alongside the lure of new tech, made him forget his reticense. Within minutes he was an active participant reading aloud to his peer group and sharing the story, this was a very refreshing and encouarging result.

But it's not just for boys, or disadvantaged learners, we found the Gifted and Talented pupils excelling too, with their reading and writing making excellent advances.
